In continuation of the previous series of talks about the developments in Central Asia, the Institute for East Strategic Studies (IESS) hosted a panel of domestic and regional experts. In this event which was held on September 24, 2024, the experts reviewed the latest status of Islamic groups in Central Asia, and analyzing the emerging religious currents.
During this session, issues such as Islamism and Muslims in Central Asia, Islamic fundamentalism, extremist movements, Salafi movements, Wahhabism, Christianity and other religious groups in the countries of the region were discussed.
Some experts present in this meeting were:
"Kanatbek Murzahalilov" , the former deputy of the State Commission for Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic (the SCRA), and a senior theology lecturer at Kyrgyzstan University;
"Alireza Sedaqat", an expert in the North & East Mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran in Mashhad;
"Gholamreza Jalali", the former assistant professor of Islamic Sciences and Culture Academy in Iran;
"Barat Shamsa", History professor at Iran’s Islamic Azad University, and Researcher of religious issues in Central Asia;
